Gayle Dieudonne ~ Ponyhour Equine Artist of The Month

We're delighted that Fine Art Artist, Gayle Dieudonne, has agreed to be interviewed for Ponyhour's Equine Artist of The Month. Gayle who has a love of Classical Art and painting works predominately in oil a medium which she finds captures the beauty and richness of the world and especially that of horses.

Thank you Gayle, first question please tell us about your work? What are you currently working on?

I have drawn and painted for most of my life and I have always been drawn to classical artwork. And this in later years influenced my own work. Although I work in many genres from history painting to portraits and pets, I have always enjoyed horseracing and this has to be my favourite subject to capture.

I am currently working on Christmas commissions, so these have to be kept under wraps until the end of the year. But I have some larger pieces planned for the start of the new year, including a conformation painting of Frankel as well as some landscapes.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Art has always been a part of my life from a young age. I grew up appreciating the masters and especially oil paintings. I suppose in many ways it was a natural progression to want to be an artist. And hopefully try to make something which does justice to my subject and which people enjoy.

What's the best advise you've been given as an artist?

I think art can be a very natural part of you, if that makes sense? So I would say the best advice I have been given is to be true to that statement. Stick to your ideals and do that which you love. I guess as with many spheres of creation art can be influenced by trends and fashions, but sticking to that which makes you tick and most importantly, want to paint, is the best advice I have been given.

What do you do when you are not creating?

In time away from my work I like to go racing (horseracing) and have a love of antiques and history. I also love to read and can spend easy hours doing research. The sport of racing and bloodstock fascinated me and is so well documented, better than our own histories sometimes.

What are your work and life goals for the future?

My aim for my artwork is ever to improve. I hope to keep challenging myself and learning to make my work better.

As for myself, keep collecting I suppose, keep learning. And one day perhaps I'd love to own a racehorse of two.

Where can we find your work?
